How Did We Do?

Luisa Veran Reyes, age 74, of Bellevue, passed peacefully from this world, on February 5, 2016.

She is survived by her son, Rico and four grandchildren (Jordan, Mariah, Courtney and Olivia), residing in Yakima; and her husband of nine years, Rodger Duncan.

Her funeral Mass will be offered at 11 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016, followed immediately with a Celebration of Life in the Koinonia Room. The Celebration of Life will start at approximately noon.

Saturday, April 2, 2016. 11 AM

St Madeline Sophie Parish
4400 130th Place SE
Bellevue, WA 98006

Luisa was born in Atimonan, Philippines in 1941, the first child of Celso and Felisa Veran. She had two brothers, Celso and Abelardo. All predeceased her.

She received her Bachelors degree in Education from Far Eastern University in 1964 and taught elementary school in the Philippines until the birth of Rico in 1965. The family immigrated to the United States in 1967, when her husband, Fidel, secured employment with The Boeing Company.

Luisa was a thirty seven year member of St Madeline Sophie Catholic parish in Bellevue. She worked in Commercial Airplanes for The Boeing Company over thirty years before her retirement in 2007.

She was most devoted to her family, and their loving bonds could never be broken. She was the constant rock, the reliable, loving foundation that was always available to every member of her family. Her love knew no bounds.

Beginning in 2001, Luisa was a homestay host for foreign students attending nearby Bellevue College. As usual, she went beyond the call of duty. She dedicated herself to making sure her students felt the love of home while they were so far from home. A quote from her first student says it all: "She treat me like her real daughter. I must have been the most happily student to have her as my host-mother." Luisa showed her great care for people ... with heartfelt ACTION!

Luisa was a beautiful, multi-talented, but sweetly unassuming woman. She did not wave her arms a lot to seek attention or to put on a show. In fact she almost did the opposite. She was not shy, but she was a bit private. It would be possible to not notice her, but if you did notice her, you HAD to love her!! She had total personal integrity. Luisa was always the same Luisa, no matter what the situation. Her actions spoke more than her words.

She was a very special peacemaker without being a pacifist. For the most part she was a joyful person and she seemed to always figure out a way to make lemonade from the ugliest and most bitter of lemons. She refused to make judgments against people. She worked hard. She was diligent. She was a person of deep and enduring faith. No wonder everyone loved her!

In short, she was pretty much a little angel ... And now she has gone Home.

Remembrances may be made to St. Madeline Sophie Parish, Bellevue.

Hello,Rodger. It's been a long time no see you, and now I miss you. I miss you and Luisa's big smile..I wanned to show my lovely boy YUTA to Luisa.

Yes, I was her first student. She accept me in2001 before Spring semester. She treat me like her real daughter. I must have been the most happily student to have her as my host-mother. She used to came to the bus-stop to pick me up. She cooked for me, even she don't like cooking so much. She tought me how to drive. We had a wonderful days at Luisa's house.

I really feel sorry and have been thought I wanna talk about this with Luisa someday, but I couldn't. This is my regret. She talked about her life sometimes, but now I feel I wanned to hear more and more. I miss her so much. She is beautiful and cute woman.
