Bob attended St Thomas More grade school and graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1982. In 1984 Bob married his lovely wife, Anita and settled in the Lynnwood area. In 1985 Bob chose to volunteer for the Mill Creek and Lynnwood Fire Departments, working with them on a part time basis until 1989. Over the years he remodeled their home where they enjoyed entertaining by throwing barbeques, homemade pizza parties with a Philly steak and horseradish cream sauce as his specialty pizza, backyard campfires and many family gatherings. He and his family loved their many years of camping, boating, and biking to Montana, Oregon and Idaho. Bob was a skilled handyman/craftsman and as a contractor he built homes, garages, sheds, custom decks, furniture and more. In 2001 Bob began his career with Snohomish County Solid Waste where he immensely enjoyed his job. Within a short period he used his knowledge, experience and talents to train fellow employees to become certified forklift operators, he was on the safety committee, he ran the loaders and also the yard goat. In true Bob fashion he often found time to organize lunchtime barbeques with his coworkers for the crew.

Bob Ptacek was my brother-in-law for over thirty years. During this time, we learned a lot about him. We learned that he was outgoing, friendly, sacrificing, and always going out of his way to selflessly help others, almost all you had to say was, "Hey Bob!".
Anita probably had more than a few projects on her honey-do list that were delayed due to Bob's willingness to respond to "Hey Bob!".
Think about your homes. How many places around the house and yard show signs that Bob had been there? My yard and house have several; our patio, shed, RV cover, and the divot in the side yard where Bob dug up our leaking water line.
I even have a few projects in the house that I never got done, but I was able to say "Hey Bob!" and he gave me advice and guidance on what he would do to if it were his project.
Of course, there were many times where Bob would say "Hey" back. But it would be worth it because you could get a great BBQ meal out of helping him.
Bob got around. He knew a lot of people and he was truly interested in them. In his travels of responding to "Hey Bob!", if he ran across any items that might be for sale or be given away, he knew someone somewhere that might be interested, so he would pick it up and bring it home - probably much to Anita's chagrin. Most of the time, a couple of phone calls would get rid of the item and Bob would have once again helped someone with their list.
I will miss being able to call and say "Hey Bob", but because of his helpfulness, knowledge, and advice, I do know more about simple home repairs, different methods of BBQ, be it grilled or smoked; the preparation of the meats, and the value of a good Butt Rub.
I know more about making homemade pizzas using a pizza stone and how to be ready to make MANY of them for a family gathering. But knowing how, still won't make them come out as good as Bob's. Bob had the knack.
From Bob, I learned about security camera setups; remote start trucks; remote control gas stoves; pellet stoves; how to lay 2'x2'x4" concrete tiles into leveled sand; how to build sheds, large and small; how to do orange peel paint on our walls (but I should have had a few more lessons); how to bury things in my garage; the value of bigger trailers; and many more than I can list here.
But most of all, what I learned from Bob was how to enjoy life and enjoy family.
