How Did We Do?

Corporal John Nourse, 38, left us on December 1, 2016 to go on a new adventure, which we
know will involve mountain biking, hiking and beer, amongst other fantastic things. John died
surrounded by love at his home in Bellevue, WA. Brain cancer took John away from us but it
never took his spirit to live life to its fullest.

John was born in California but then soon moved to Spokane, WA where he grew up with his
parents, Rosalie and Jack, and sisters, Becky and Rhonda. John moved to Bellingham,
Washington to attend Western Washington University where he graduated with a degree in
Finance. While in Bellingham, John met his lovely wife, and partner in play, Tawna. John
always said he was the luckiest guy around to have found the love of his life. They have three
amazing children, son Quincy (13), and twin daughters Johnny (8) and Charly (8). John always
put others first and had wisdom far beyond his years. He joined the Marietta Fire Department
in Whatcom County where he selflessly served for 5 years. He then changed gears and
decided he wanted to be a police officer. He has served with the Bellevue Police Department
for the past 10 years. One of John's greatest joys was the time he spent as an officer in the
downtown bicycle unit. John always said he loved being a part of the bike unit because it
allowed him to talk with and really get to know people in the community. It embodied why he
became an officer. He later became a Corporal, training new officers and serving the Bellevue
community in any way he could.

Everyone who met John felt a connection with him. He talked to all people with ease and
understanding and he could make anyone laugh! He had the uncanny ability to tell you what
you didn't want to hear in a way that made you grateful for hearing it. Even at the very end
he was making us laugh with his quick wit. John was an extraordinary community volunteer
and spent countless hours volunteering at his children's schools and throughout the
community.

John was an avid bike rider who passed his love of riding to his children. He loved anything
outdoors include hiking, camping, skiing, hula hooping, polo refereeing, tie dying, and playing
bocce ball, to name a few. He was an amazing artist who could draw a giant My Little Pony-
Rainbow Dash without a worry. He was the ultimate dad. His love of his kids was
immeasurable. There is nothing on this planet that he would not do for them or with them.

John is survived by his wife Tawna and their three children, Quincy, Johnny & Charly, his
parents Jack and Rosalie, his sisters Becky & Rhonda, nephew and niece Bryson & Ellie, tons
of friends, and his best furry friend who never left his side, Wilson.

John will be honored on Dec. 16 at 3pm at the Bellevue Red Lion. In lieu of flowers a Go Fund
Me has been started to support the family. You can find it at gofundme.com In Memory Of
John Nourse.

I never met John but I feel like I know him well through his wonderful Mother, Rosalie. I worked with Rosalie for many years - she is a caring, beautiful and such a loving person that I believe with all my heart that John was just the same. Thank you, Rosalie, for sharing John with me on Facebook. Your love and his love have made this world a much better place.

John was the best in everything he did. I will forever remember the love he showed to Tawna, Quincy, Johnny, and Charly. There was not one day that he did not do something special for them. Even though he knew he was not in a good situation he continued to be involved in all activities with my daughter and my grandkids. Special thanks to all who supported him (everyone did). Thank you to the firefighters from Whatcom County and the Bellevue Police Department for supporting and continuing until that stupid, nasty cancer took his life from all who loved him. Tawna, Quincy, Johnny and Charly, Papa loves you more.
