Everett was a happy man - contented in his daily life. He was humble with a calm, quiet strength. He thought before he spoke and chose his words with care. He had a keen, dry sense of humor. He laughed easily and often.

Everett was born to Wendell and Meta Fredericks in Richmond Hill, NY. He was welcomed by his sisters Meta (7 years old) and Valeria (5 years old). When he was 6 years old, his mother died. The family lived with his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth, whose household was a bustling, joyful affair with Aunt Jessie and his cousin Seth (13 years old) residing there. The two cousins were lifelong friends, avid readers, and interested in the universe and how things worked.

Everett graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School's Aeronautical Group in 1941. One of his first jobs was in a Manhattan nightclub photographing patrons at their tables and selling them the pictures before they left.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces at age 19 and served as a weather observer in a Photo RCN Squadron in India/Burma from 1943-1945. Following the war, he worked for Brewster Aircraft Company manufacturing engine parts. He loved automobiles, especially performance automobiles. He bought an old Porsche and managed to keep it running for years. He bought his second Porsche for $1.00 (a splendid deal) and used it as his daily driver for many years because his golf clubs fit into it. His love of cars led to a subscription to Road and Track magazine. Every monthly issue from January 1950 to December 1995 is currently stored in the garage.

In 1951 he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from New York University College of Engineering. He joined Curtiss-Wright Corporation in Wood Ridge, New Jersey in the Aeronautical Division's Engineering department. Everett formed enduring friendships with a group of engineers he met at NYU. They invested in a 32' Yawl - a grand old wooden sailing ship named Sköl. Weekends were spent caulking, sanding, and varnishing to get ready for summer sailing on Long Island Sound and on to Block Island, MA.

Everett left New York in January 1958 to work for The Boeing Airplane Company in the Pilotless Aircraft Division. On July 20, 1958, he and Joan Ann were married in NY and drove west for their honeymoon and lifetime adventure together that lasted 52 years. A tiny apartment in West Seattle would be home. In a year they moved to Bellevue and their first house in Woodridge. Everett delighted in the births of their three children: Karla (1962), Paul (1964), and Aileen (1969). Family life was busy with dance classes, piano recitals, Merrywood School, Indian Guides, Special Olympics, soccer Saturdays, camping trips, La Push, Hood Canal, ferry rides, driving back roads exploring the wonders of Washington State. And there were trips to the East Coast for vacations, holidays with family, and seeing longtime friends.

Life whirled on and on. Everett was a 40 year member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers and after a 30 year career with The Boeing Company, he retired in 1988. Now there was more time for golf. He joined the Boeing Retirees Golf League and played as he lived; with dignity, gusto, and a smile - especially on October 24, 1994 at Foster Golf Links - a hole-in-one on hole number 11 (136 yards with a 7 iron) - his first and only hole-in-one. For several years he was a golf coach for Special Olympics in Bellevue and enjoyed sharing the game with others and helping the program grow.

Everett was happy to share in the unique weddings of his daughters: Karla to Anton in Millingen aan de Rijn, The Netherlands on October 21, 1988, and Aileen to Steven at Longmire, Mount Rainier National Park on August 27, 1994. He delighted in his grandchildren: Michael (1998), Grayson (2002), and Edie (2006) and took them on their first sea voyage to Alaska in 2008 to celebrate his and Joan Ann's 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration continued with a wonderful dinner and dance in Seattle. Everett the non-dancer even danced. Everett's last sea voyage to share with Joan Ann was a 30-day trip from Seattle to Auckland, New Zealand in September of 2008.

He will be remembered as an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
