How Did We Do?

David Russel Sharpe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 19, 2011. Dave's fight with multiple myeloma was not without struggle nor did it define him. His character of tenacity, strength and determination gave Dave the ability to focus on the importance of life by being with family and friends and working on his passions in architecture.
Born April 23, 1948 in Edmonton, Alberta to Howard and Helene Sharpe. Dave's passion for building was soon to be discovered on a small farm in Mayerthorpe, Alberta. In his earlier years, he would spend his time creating plans/designs for buildings and toys while he was supposed to be doing his chores. His love for a challenge gave him a unique ability to not only repair buildings but to repair mechanical problems as well. His talent for design was remarkable even at this age so it was not surprising that he picked a career in construction.
Travel was another of Dave's passions in life. Whether it was a camping trip to the "Rockies", a road trip across North America, a cruise through Europe or a simple walk in a park around the Pacific Northwest, Dave was always up for a new adventure. Not to be deterred by his fight with cancer and Dave's 'no fail' attitude, he soon found himself in a RV lovingly referred to as 'BOB'. BOB brought a renewed sense of adventure for Dave, who spent time travelling to new and old destinations with his wife and family.

There is no possible way to sum up a man's life in a few paragraphs. His loves and his passions were extensive. His support and compassion for his family and friends were unparalleled. His ideals were as grand as his ideas. His love of life and laughter brought joy to all his life touched. Many shared his dreams and he will be missed but not forgotten.

Dave's greatest love was his family and friends. This foundation of love from his parents, siblings and cousins developed through the years. This helped make him a proud father and grandfather. He was always supportive and loving. He is survived by his wife, June; daughter, Bernadette (Jose) Andrade; son, Bradley (Teodora) Sharpe; four lovely granddaughters, Brianna and Annastasia Bridger, Maya and Kyla Andrade; parents, Howard and Helene Sharpe; brother, Duncan (Linda) Sharp; sister, Janice (Luke) Sharpe-Bumstead; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
"Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day."

The family would like to express their thanks to the Northwest Kidney Center and the Home Dialysis Team; The University of Washington Hospital 8 NE staff; Dr. Pamila Keech and staff; Dr. Pamela Becker and staff; Gab Zecha , Janice Omri, who were always there for us; and Dr. S. Anderson, University of Washington Renal, who was there for us during a difficult time.

Family condolences may be sent to the family home: 17416 NE 20th Court, Redmond, WA 98052.

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in a manner
so that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.
-Native American Proverb

I am very sad to hear of Dave's passing. His and his family's strength through all of this has absolutely amazed and inspired me. What I was most inspired by was that Dave and his family continued to live their life despite the cancer; they continued to travel, share holidays together - life continued on. Dave will be missed dearly in this world by many, including me. My hearts and thoughts go out to June, Bradley, Bernadette and their families - and all the extended family and friends. Lots of love and hugs - Natalie
