How Did We Do?

Betty Lou (Deason) Jackson was born in Wichita, KS on March 31st, 1927. She teased about almost being an April Fools baby!! Betty was the fourth child in the Deason family. Her father, Orville, and her mother, Mabel, had two sons Charles and Max, all who have preceded her in death. Also, a beloved daughter, Aileen, who now lives in Lees Summit, MO.

Betty often spoke of her great love for this dear sister. Betty began her love affair with work at 15 years of age working in the Sears Department store selling candy and records for the top 50 hits. She then became a secretary for the Hallmark Brothers in Kansas City, following to the Ford Car Dealership in Kansas City also as a secretary. She achieved her AA at Southwest Baptist which now has become Southwest Baptist University. Betty began furthering her education by completing her BA and Masters at the University of MO at Warrensburg. She then worked for the Raytown School District in Raytown, MO as an Elementary School teacher and also as a helping teacher showing other teachers how to be outstanding in the classroom.

As her child, I was always excited and proud when she would be asked to step into the classroom where I was a student. In 1975, she and her husband, Jim, moved to Stockton, MO to begin Owl Haven Car-wash/Laundry-mat/Florist. After JIm's death in 1983, Betty went to real estate school to become a talented broker for Coldwell Bankers, owning J and S Realty with her friend and business partner, Evelyn Smith. Betty worked as a broker until she was 75 years old. Along the way she was happily married to Jim Jackson and together they raised two beautiful daughters. The eldest, Rebecca Lou - married to Luke Cory, lives in Geneseo, KS, and have raised two boys, Jim and Bob. The second daughter Jennifer - married to Steve Hammond, lives in Enumclaw, WA. They have raised 8 children; Micah, Melody, Matthew, Marissa, McKenzie, Markus, Mitchell and Meyers.

Betty was a little spit-fire and her enthusiasm for life was contagious to all. She made it clear that she knew Jesus Christ personally. She said that she would be waiting to be joined by all of us who also know Jesus Christ personally. Her life has made an impact on many. We love you, Betty Lou!!!!

Betty was an energetic person who loved life and her Lord Jesus. She used her musical talents to play in several churches in Stockton. She will be missed.
