How Did We Do?

Max Denby, a beloved former summer staff member and current volunteer working at Sound View Camp, was killed in a single motor vehicle accident on the grounds of the camp, on March 27, 2011.

Max, 23, was a member of Woodland Park Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He was a faithful, generous, talented young man who was passionate about helping the camp, kids and congregations learn about caring for God and Creation by practicing sustainable gardening. Max is survived by his mother Debra Denby, grandmother Darlene See, Aunts Deanna (Alex) Beye, Denise Ruber, D'Alta Sue Denby and Dorene Landis, uncle Charles "Billy" Denby, cousins Crystal (Jerod) Heneger and their daughter Crissy, Alicia Denby and Jessica Lyon and her daughters Lilyanna and Victoria.

Debra,
We have enjoyed watching Max grow up. We remember when he even baby sat our girls! I have always admired you, Debra. You raised such a wonderful young man. He was a lot of the fun and all the kids (including the older ones) wanted to be around him. We are so glad that Lupita got to go to Soundview camp last summer and interact with Max. She was so excited that she caught him in a game and got to paint his beard. My Mom remembers him as well from her visits. Max helped her load up her truck last Fall. Most of all, I remember you and Max together at church and when he was not at church, hearing about what he was doing. Your bond was admirable. We will all miss him. We lover you so much, Debra. We wish we could be there in Seattle now and pay our respects in person. Please know that we are thinking of you and your family.

Deborah, I want to thank you for your son, and for sharing him so generously. He babysat my guys, he worked alongside us in our yard, he ate Christmas dinner with us in 2010. He welcomed the younger kids into the youth group and helped out as a mentor. Max was a big part of our lives each Sunday for 15 years! You were the best mom he could ever have had. Love to you and him.

Max - for all the moments you spent in deep thought and contemplation . . . may you now find true reward. For the many seeds you have sown and those sown by others you've taught . . . may they continue to grow, nourish, enrich and sustain life. May the love, laughter and generosity you shared with us be spread to others through us forevermore.

Peace and well wishes to your dear mom, other family and friends during this time of transition. You are loved. cw

Max, you were like a brother to me. I wasn't very close to you over the last couple years, but from what I see, you grew up so much and you have touched so many lives and everything is coming to light on how much you truly did change the world (the people around you). You are very much missed here on earth, but we all know that you are in a much better place with God. Your life and your passion will continue to touch people's lives even though you are not here in human form, your spirit will live on. We love you Max and we will see you again!

We never Forget lost friends, but sometimes, we remember them.

I'll never grow up with anyone else. you are my soul brother, it was never weird with you, it was like I was by myself when I was with you, but I didn't feel alone. It was the best of both worlds, and I don't regret one moment I spent around you, be we angry at each other, or laughing off the "big argument" of the day before.
