How Did We Do?

Age 98, Renton, Washington, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2011. Anna was born October 13, 1913, during a tornado on the prairie of Plentywood, Montana, to her parents John and Anna Kovach. She was married to Jack (LaVern) Rudolph Owen. They lived in California.

Anna worked as a waitress from the age of 13 to the age of 65. She loved to garden. She was a strong-hardworking woman. Her husband died young leaving her with two children ages 9 and 7 to raise by herself. She never remarried.

She enjoyed sharing stories of her life with her grandchildren. Anna will forever be in the heart of her children and grandchildren. She was a hero to some and was affectionately called Grandma Babe and Aunt Honey.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Barbara Reed; her son-in-law, Dave Reed; her grandchildren, Lynda Karwal, Michael Reed, and Cheryl Reed; her great grandchildren, Karyn Gaffney, Mishael Gibbs, Nikolaus Karwal, Anna Karwal, Esther Karwal, Kendall Reed, and Brenten Reed; and her great-great grandchildren, Jasmine and Kenson Gibbs.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Rudolph Owen; and her daughter, Helen Pearl Owen.

She will be greatly missed. Love you all. Cherish every moment as if it was your last. Life is not about how many breaths you take its about the moments that take your breath away.

Cheryl Marie on Oct 26, 2011

I have come to love the crustiest of crusts, favour peas over most vegetables, be glad that I have curly hair just like you, will think of you two days after my birthday and know that you are thinking of me, forever more think of pork chops as a traditional Slavic Thanksgiving meal, will treasure the stories you told me of my unknown grandfather, Jack and your days in Montana and New Jersey as a girl, remember all those special single days each year visiting for the holidays as a child and all the insight and wisdom you have shared with me since moving to Seattle. Your physical presence will be missed but you will live on in my memory and heart. Thank you for being so much a part of who I am.
