How Did We Do?

Carolyn Jean Davenport Benjamin, Born September , 10 1945 Chicago, Illinois Died October 25, 2011 Seattle, WA

Carolyn is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Elaine Stannard and Robert Davenport. She is survived by her three children: Eric Benjamin, Thalia Ryer , Leslie Benjamin, her four sisters: Roberta Davenport, Ginger Van Boven, Sherry S...anchez and Susan Davenport Moore, and her brother Robert Davenport Jr, and a vast extended family who all loved her.

Mom was a great lady, who suffered through some major challenges in life, but you always knew she loved you. Though burdened with mental illness, our mother, Carolyn was always loving and generous to those around her less fortunate. When I think back at all of the times that I remember being around Mom several things come to mind. One was her love of people and socializing and her love of art. She was a very talented artist in all mediums, but her favorite was Charcoal. Her sister Ginger share mom's love of art and talent at the same. Mom held several jobs over the years, first a mother, she worked with the University of Washington, as a masseuse, she was a legal secretary, an administrative assistant and she worked with the Washington Services for the Blind.

For the past 20 years she lived in Skagit, and Whatcom Counties. She was unable to live independently, but she loved attending church services and her friends in Bellingham. She would always talk about going to church and the fellowship she found there. Thank you to all those who reached out to her. We know how much she touched your lives.

Carolyn passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, who sang hymns to her as she took her last breaths. She is in ours, and many other's prayers.

For her family, it was difficult at times over the years, and I speak for many when I say that I am so happy we were able to move her down here to Seattle to spend the last year of her life close to family. For many of us it provided the opportunity to finally have a positive relationship and to heal some old wounds. Carolyn, Mom, we will always love and miss you.
