How Did We Do?

Michael DelaCalzada passed away Wednesday November 9, after battling a rare lung disease for the past 2 years. He was born in San Diego, California on December 08, 1960 to Lucio and Maria DelaCalzada both who grew up and married in the Philippines.

Coming from a military background, Michael decided to join the United States Air Force in 1979 and there he spent the next 13 years. After Desert Storm and military downsizing, Michael moved to the Western Washington area. He had several jobs but lastly became a shipping and receiving manager which he gave another 13 years of dedicated hard work.

People that know Michael would say he didn't mince words and had a great sense of humor. All his family and friends enjoyed receiving his "philosophical" messages that created great laughter. As a San Diego Chargers fan, Sunday and Monday would find him in front of the TV rooting them on! He loved to cook, loved animals and loved the beach. He was a passionate man that put family first and foremost and everything else was second.

He survived by his wife, Shelly his four children Tony, Rachel, James and Jessica, his three stepchildren Kevin, Jacob and Jerrod as well as his brothers David, Richard, Christopher, sisters Grace and Lisa, and his father Lucio. His mother Maria preceded his death in 2007.

Michael made me laugh so many times I can't remember. Every time I walked onto the shop floor in Tukwila, it was always some joke, but always a smile and a handshake. I have been gone so long I didn't hear until tonight. So sorry Shelly, what a great person he will always be. Wow.

I went to school with Mike. We played football together. I remember practicing with the band "Imagination" in his garage and just hanging out...even though I was older than him, he seemed like a big brother to me...I miss you Mike! Love You!

I worked with Mike for over 10 years and he has been missed since he left. He worked hard and truly put his shoulder to the task at hand. If you heard Mike laughing you knew something truly funny had happened.
My condolences to his family and the rest of his close friends.

I had the priviledge of knowing Michael through Shelly's correspondence on a facebook page. I have the same disease that took him so early from his loving wife and family. My prayers will continue for you as you all find your path through this unfortunate of times. God Bless
