I met Charisse for the first time many years ago just after the death of her husband. In recent years, I knew her as a friend who gave out kindness to me in the form of warm hugs and in the form of gifts to brighten my apartment during the Christmas season. She shared with me about two weeks ago a kind of last wish or hope of hers -- that the building fund at Emmanuel keep growing so that her church could survive to nurture those who might come there for the love she found and returned to all.

We will miss you dearest Charisse.
