Eunice King Franklin 82, of Port Townsend, WA passed away Wednesday 22 August 2012 from complications resulting from a stroke.
Eunice was born 18 January 1930 in Winlock, WA to Alphreda (Frieda) Phernetton King and Clarence Leslie King. She graduated from Winlock High School in 1948 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State College (now Washington State University) in 1952. She married Richard (Dick) I. Franklin 9 September 1951. After Dick's graduation from WSC in 1953, they lived in a number of locations, including Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya before making a home in Southern California where she taught elementary school for several years. In 1961, they returned to their home state of Washington, where she resided with her husband and children. The family relocated to Southern California in 1975 and in 1986 relocated again to Ypsilanti, MI. In 1995, she and her husband retired to Port Townsend, WA.
Eunice and Dick traveled extensively throughout their married life, visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, southern Europe, Northern Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Central America, the Caribbean and transited the Panama Canal. She loved crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, researcher and genealogist. She became the recording secretary of the Jefferson County Genealogical Society in 2004 and has been an active volunteer at the Genealogical society's research center in Port Townsend. Eunice was recognized by the Washington State Genealogical Society in 2010 for her exceptional contributions.
Mrs. Franklin is survived by her 4 children: Richard S. Franklin (Barbara) of Bellevue, WA; Stacey Franklin Morgan (Bill Jr.) of Castaic, CA; Bradley R. Franklin (Linda) of Chino Hills, CA and Douglas R. Franklin (SummerAnne) of Murrieta, CA; 8 grandchildren: R. Zachary (Alea), Lindsey Franklin Woelke (Jake), Jordon, Jacob, Trevor, Taylor, Mackenzie and Hannah; as well as 3 great grandchildren: R. Parker, Camden and Jameson. Also surviving Eunice is her sister-in-law E. Lael Franklin Harris as well as two nephews and two nieces.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Dick in 2002 after nearly 51 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Frieda in 1982; her father, Clarence in 1984 and her brother, Jimmie in 2010.
So sorry to hear of Eunice passing. I had not heard from her in awhile and found this online posting from the family. Again my thoughts are with her family. I am happy to have known her.
