Was born December 31, 1942 in Chicago, IL. Passed away November 11, 2012 in Kirkland, Washington. Robert is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Meredith and Sydney, brother Al, nephew Nick, and nieces Megan and Julia.
Bob was a true renaissance man. He loved a Puccini opera as much as he loved baseball. La Boheme was his favorite. Could down a Chicago dog with all the fixings one minute, and sit down with some pâté and a glass of Chivas, another. His favorite pâté was from Ducs de Gascogne in Paris. Bob did not need a crowd around him to enjoy life. He loved reading The New York Times, and doing the crossword puzzle every day, in ink. Listened to the puzzle on Sunday mornings with Will Shortz and then Prairie Home Companion. Bob was incredibly well read and had a vast understanding and knowledge of just about any subject, yet he never boasted. Bob was devoted to his daughters, and was a strong presence in their lives. He immersed himself in the community. From his daily excursion to the QFC, first to chat with everyone, and then to buy his paper, to volunteering at Peter Kirk Elementary for their reading and math programs, to playing senior softball with the Hawks and Owls, to serving as Treasurer at Stella Schola Middle School, plus being the available volunteer for just about any field trip, to serving on the Parks Board. He never felt he had to prove anything to anyone and didn't suffer fools easily. Bob loved traveling and favorite stops were Barcelona, Tuscany, Paris, New York and, of course, his hometown, Chicago. Although he grew up on the South side of Chicago, he was a diehard Cubs fan, like his Chicago hero, Steve Goodman, who also died too young. Bob will be dearly missed and remembered forever.
Bob was an amazing man and will be deeply missed. Your story of his life defines Bob so perfectly. My thoughts and prayers are with you all through this tough time. Hopefully knowing that Bob made such an impact on others through all that he did will provide some comfort through this time.
My heart goes out to you as I remember Bob's great smile, commitment to community and most of all the love and pride he had for his family.
My well wishes to Bob's family and so sorry for your loss. First met Bob playing softball for Kirkland Highlands. Since that time, it was always a pleasure when our paths crossed and we caught up. One gem of advice Bob passed along was in response to my asking how he can keep playing baseball for so many years - his only comments was, "never take an off season". When I think about Bob, that pretty much sums up how I observed Bob's approach to life in general. Bob will be missed, but I'll carry his advice always. Kevin Keller
I never had the opportunity to meet Bob, but through Sheila I feel like I have know him for yeas. I know that he was an extraordinary husband and father and I know that he will be missed by his family and friends. My heart goes out to Sheila, Sydney and family at this time of loss.
I remember talking and laughing with Bob at the school gates during the time our kids were at elementary. He was a fun, caring and very likable person. I miss knowing he's around.
