Alberta Foster, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully, at the home she shared with her daughter Karen and granddaughter Devyn on 19 Nov 2012. Alberta's life was a testament to the possibilities America offered, having gone from working in the agricultural fields of California's Central Valley, as a part of a generation of American's of African descent that saw their world change right before their very eyes. She then went on to work her way into management in the telecommunications industry, achieving a level of success her parents could never have dreamed of. In so doing, she helped to shape a new American dream that her family has continued through the achievements of her children and grandchildren. Her loving guidance and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
As she had wanted, a living Memorial was made possible by the loving visits of her brother's and son's in the days and weeks prior to her death.
Alberta is survived by her loving children, Kevin Whittle, of Vienna, Virginia, Derek Whittle of Woodinville, Washington, and Karen Whittle of Kirkland, Washington; her grandchildren, Shealagh, Lena, Devyn, Riel, Simeon, Nia, and Jamaal; as well as her brothers, Freddie J. Kelley of Virgina, Johnny Kelley of Virginia, Jimmie (Mick) Bobo of Florida, and her sister Mary Moreland of Oklahoma.
Mom, you are so dearly missed. Although I know you will always be with me, I would give almost anything to see you smile one more time. You were more then simply a mother to me, but you were also my best friend. Sleep sweetly, beautiful lady. I love you with all my heart.
