Howard Glenn Fite, 82

Howard "Glenn" Fite was a native Southerner who thoroughly enjoyed all there was to offer in the many places he lived and visited. He was an avid traveler who made a point to see the world following his retirement.

Born in Atlanta on Jan. 25, 1931, Glenn attended high school in Nashville and attended Vanderbilt University, receiving a BA in business. He married Margaret Richardson Fite in Nashville on Feb. 21, 1953. After rising to the rank of Sergeant in the Army he went on to earn a graduate degree in accounting from the University of Georgia. Working as a CPA took him and his young family to live in a variety of cities across the south, including Atlanta, Augusta, Birmingham, Clearwater, FL, and eventually back to Atlanta.

Upon settling in Atlanta, he was the chief financial officer for the Atlanta History Center. He was incredibly proud of his job at the Center, helping to guide a successful major expansion, and contributing to its role in preserving Atlanta's heritage for generations to come. He and his wife retired to their beloved summer home near Blairsville, GA. He continued to provide financial services to others throughout his retirement, providing tax accounting and consulting to individuals, businesses and the Blairsville Historical Society.

He was adventurous in ways beyond travel. He was an avid pilot who frequently flew his Piper Cub in Clearwater, and with family and friends in tow from Atlanta's Peachtree-DeKalb Airport. He later ignited a new passion for sailing and became a regular sight on Lake Lanier on summer nights and weekends. He enjoyed golf and attending the Masters Golf Tournament, watching college football and reading crime-novels and westerns.

Howard "Glenn" Fite died Sunday, Oct. 27 near his new home in Woodinville, Washington. He and his wife, Margaret "Ogee," recently relocated to the Seattle-area to be closer to family.

A private service will be held in Seattle, WA for family and friends. He will be buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, alongside his son Gregory Estes Fite who passed away in 1978.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Richardson Fite; his son, Michael Glenn Fite and daughter-in-law Janet Marie Fite of Kirkland, WA; and grandchild Kimberly and her husband, Michael Hardcastle of Ventura, CA.
