Carl A Ficker, 71, was at home with his loving wife, Wanda, when he peacefully slipped into heaven on February 11, 2014.
Carl was born August 29, 1942, in Seattle. His family moved to Pine Lake in Issaquah in 1946. Carl and his brother, Al, were active in Boy Scouts. Carl received his Eagle Scout Award in 1957 when he was just 14 years old. He attended Clark Elementary School and graduated from Issaquah High School where he played football for the Issaquah Indians.
Carl graduated University of Washington in 1966 with a BS in Forestry. He worked on his master's degree in entomology, which earned him the opportunity to spend two summers conducting insect surveys in Southeast Alaska -some of the best memories of his life.
Carl opened his own business, Eastside Roofing Supply, in 1973, in a rented warehouse in Bellevue. He later purchased land on Northup Way and had a warehouse built. Carl ran the business until 1998 when Parkinson's disease made it difficult for him to keep doing that work.
Carl married the love of his life, Wanda Muhlbeier, in December, 1973, and they had forty wonderful years together. One of their first dates was trout fishing at Pine Lake. They made their home in Issaquah, WA. on Cougar Mountain where Carl's chain saw was his best friend.
Wanda and Carl raised their three sons, Scott, Ryan and Randy with a love of the outdoors and all three of the boys now hike the trails their dad once did. He knew them all! Carl bought a camping trailer with bunk beds and camping trips were a precious family activity. Carl liked playing cards and board games, especially when they lost electricity, which happened a lot on Cougar Mountain. He always attended his sons' IHS sporting event. Going to family reunions in the wilds of Montana was also a family tradition Carl enjoyed. Antioch Bible Church was a big part of their family life. After the boys left home Carl hiked several sections of the Pacific Coast Trail with Al.
Carl will be remembered for carrying on the Ficker family tradition - leading a caravan of cars over to Stampede Pass to cut Christmas trees. He was also a talented woodworker, designing and building furniture. He was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to that. His unique walnut hutch still stands in the family dining room today.
In 2006 Carl and Wanda decided to try retirement in Kennewick, WA. But Carl's multiple health issues caused them to return to the Seattle area to be near their sons and they settled in Everett, WA. Carl enjoyed playing pinochle and cribbage right up to the end of his life.
Carl is survived by his wife, his sons, and Ryan's wife, Kristin. He was looking forward to the birth of his granddaughter due in May. He is also survived by his brother and his wife, Al and Patty Ficker, who make their home in Koloa, Kauai. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Evelyn Ficker.
