James (Jim) Sandsmark, 82, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014. Jim was born in Cresco, Iowa to Moran and Wilma Sandsmark. He grew up on Mercer Island where he developed his love for the outdoors, fishing, and the water. Jim graduated from Overlake High School in 1949 and attended the University of Washington. After graduation, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and spent time on the East Coast in Atlantic City and later at Point Grenville, Washington.



After leaving the service, Jim joined Boeing as an Industrial Engineer. His career with Boeing lasted 34 yeas, divided between the Renton Plant and Boeing Everett 747 Plant. Jim's priority was family. Weekends were spent having fun and relaxing: camping, boating, exploring and spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife Ivy enjoyed Winters in Palm Springs, Summers in the Northwest, and being with his grandchildren.



Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ivy, his daughters Lisa Tracy (John) Linda Drake, grandchildren Brianne, Austin and Chase. Sisters Janis Swanson (Richard) Bev Kay (Ken) Bonnie Sandsmark (Gary Stadel), and many nieces and nephews.
