Joyce Elaine Moore was born April 28, 1934 to Dale Young and Wilhelmina Connelly at the Salvation Army Hospital in Spokane, Washington. At about 6 months of age she was moved to the Home of the Good Shepherd, where the good Sisters brought her to the home of Mary Bell Johnstone,
in the Hillyard neighborhood. Although briefly placed in other homes, she was fortunate to be returned to Grandma Johnstone, who gave her a real family. Her birth parents visited her several times. She graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1952 and began working. In 1955 Grandma Johnstone passed away; Joyce was adopted as an adult by Mrs. Johnstone's daughter Jan Moore.
Living in San Francisco, California, Joyce joined the Catholic Church, receiving the names Teresa Marie. In 1959 she moved to Seattle, WA., working for many years as a bookkeeper and general office worker, as well as volunteering at the Open Door Clinic in the University District.
For a time she attended Seattle University and lived briefly on Bainbridge Island. Since 1974 she lived first in the Cascade neighborhood (now called South Lake Union), then West Seattle and since 1989 in Ballard.
Her love and concern for animals was ever present. Over her lifetime her family included Milly (her dog in Hillyard), Black Siamese cats Princess, Sambo and the kittens, dogs Little Buddy, Charlie Brown, her dog Raz, Lu'cia the cat and her Life Partner, Natacha Alice Frazier.
We mark her passing on September 15, 2014. Family, friends and neighbors all find joy in knowing her. We bless her Soul's Journey.
