Irvin Rodger Kimbrough was born on December 26, 1916 in Newton Kansas to Carrie Martin Kimbrough and Edward E. Gray. He passed away on September 30, 2014 at his home in Mercer Island, WA. His beloved wife, Irene Betty Jones Kimbrough, his mother, father and brother Sam C. Kimbrough preceded him in death. He is survived by his children Edward Irvin Kimbrough of Lansing, MI; Carol Ann Kimbrough Frank (husband Christopher) of Spring Hill, FL; Kenneth Rodger Kimbrough (wife Juneanne) of Arlington, VA; and Donna Leigh Kimbrough of Seattle, WA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Irvin graduated from Douglass High School in Oklahoma City, OK. After serving in the Navy during WWII he founded and managed Kimbrough Plumbing Company until moving to Washington State in the late 1960's. While living in Tacoma he worked at the Bremerton Ship Yard, taught plumbing at Tacoma Community College and joined Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters. After retirement Irvin became a real estate broker and developed lots, and built and sold homes. He was a frequent volunteer at public events to promote Diabetes awareness.
During his life, Irvin was an avid hunter of small game and birds with his canine companions Queen and Adam. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, reading fiction, playing cribbage, dominoes and bridge where he won many tournaments. Irvin was a devout Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior from an early age. A memorial will be held at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040 on Friday, November 14, 2014, at 2:30p Repast will immediately follow at the church.
