How Did We Do?

Stan was born on October 16, 1942 in Cornell, Wisconsin to Letty and Herb Hill. He passed on February 17, 2015. Stan fought a short but brave battle against liver cancer succumbing in Overlake hospital in Bellevue, Washington.
Stan was born a brown-eyed charmer who joined his older brother Brad and was his side-kick from the beginning. Wherever Brad was you could bet Stan was there too...probably regretting his loyalty to his older brother like the time the chain broke on the bicycle and Stan was on the handle bars or when his older brother gave him the non-powerful BB gun and declared the game they were playing to be fun.
As Stan grew up he became what is now known to be a "chick" magnet...he was an All-City Center on the Cleveland high school football team and also played a mean trumpet. Stan went on to the University of Washington graduating in communications in 1964...he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He joined the United States Navy and served as an officer for four years, part of the time was in Viet Nam. Upon his return Stan and a friend toured Europe for several months...he arrived back in New York flat broke but what a time was had on their trip!
When Stan returned to the Seattle area he took a job with a mortgage company and eventually went into his own business with partner Jack Milne...their credit reporting business was a great success...when the business sold Stan decided to retire.
Stan met and married Barbara McDowell on June 12, 1971...they had two children: son Bryan, born December 8, 1973 joined later by daughter Laura, born February 24, 1976.
The family enjoyed their annual trips to Lake Conconully...a Hill family tradition starting when Stan was a little boy continuing on yearly...they skied every winter and especially after buying their condominium at Ski Acres...Stan served on the board of the Edelweiss condominium beginning years of volunteering on one board and then another.
The family began trips to Maui each year and Barbara and Stan bought a condominium there enjoying beautiful weather and golf whenever possible.
Both Bryan and Laura went on to graduate from WSU...being a husky made Stan a minority in the household...he was always so very proud of his children's accomplishments and would burst with pride every time he thought about what great kids he had.
Stan is survived by his son, Bryan (Julia), daughter, Laura (Keith Loucks), brother, Brad (Diana), sister Marilyn (Paul Klei) granddaughters: Brooke Hill and Amelia Loucks, grandson Logan Loucks, numerous loving nieces and nephews and dear friend, Ellie Sprague.
You are invited to attend a memorial service on February 28th. at Pilgrim Lutheran church in Bellevue...10420 SE 11th. at 11:00 AM with a luncheon to follow at brother Brad's house: 1230 80th. Place NE. Medina.
Contributions may be made in Stan's name to a non-profit organization called Good Days from CDF www.gooddaysfromcdf.org they were a wonderful help for dad and his treatment.
For all who knew Stan he was a loving, gifted guy...generous with his time and always good for a laugh...his giggle was the best. We will miss him but have warm memories...Aloha, Dad/Papa/Stan.

CandleMy favorite memory of Stan is the trip I made with Laura to spend the weekend with everyone at Lake Conconully. Right before heading out on the trip I was informed that fishing was not a spectator sport and I needed a license and some bravery if I was going to come on the trip.
Now, I had never fished before and really didn't want to, so I decided 'forgetting' to get my fishing license would be my excuse. Well, I should have known better. Stan had my license all paid for and ready to go and an Laura, Stan and I headed out in the boat.
I was secretly hoping Not to catch anything because I was advised I would have to clean what I caught, but just my luck I caught 4 fish. I somehow got out of cleaning the fish (thank you Laura) and the next morning it was the best breakfast I'd ever had. I'll always remember that and how Stan and Laura made my first fishing experience Great fun even though I was a reluctant participant. Stan, I know you will be terribly missed and the memories and stories will be such a help to those who knew you. May you rest in peace.
Laura, I am so sorry for your loss. Love you.

Your friend Kat.
