Following are some of the feelings and memories about Leigh Yeomans by his former classmates on Mercer Island. He left Mercer Island prior to the graduation of the Class of 1959, but he was a frequent guest at many of the reunions held by his former class and was a long-term friend to many.
I remember Leigh with fondness and am so sorry to hear of his passing. He had the best dog in 5th grade, a German Shepherd that followed Leigh around to school and everywhere. He lived on 60th SE near East Seattle School [and was] a good friend of Gordon Rock. I lived near by, as did Jerry Stubbs. I played marbles [with him], [and I] had a few neat ones from California. If I remember correctly, he won those. Leigh would often come to the MIHS dances and old friends would [enjoy seeing] him. He did stay in contact with [his friends on] the Island. Good memories.

...I remember him as a good guy, [and] that I liked [him] a lot. When we were in grade school we spent a lot of time together.

Leigh was my best friend, and for most of elementary school, my next door neighbor. Hardly a day went by that we didn't interact in some way. Building tree houses, forts in the blackberries, tree swings at Charlie Moody's, scouts, day adventures hiking to Ellis Pond, building Soap Box racers, and hours spent at the lake were only a few of the great activities that filled our days. George Cappaccio and I did have lunch with Leigh a few years back. It was a great opportunity to go down memory lane. It is sad to know he is now gone.
