Marianne Reynolds passed peacefully at the age of ninety four on December 11, 2015. "When strength to deal with life comes to an end, release is a blessing." Marianne was preceded in death by her brother, Guenther Koenkow, and his wife Ursula. Survived by her husband Francis Reynolds, her children Petra Richie, Liz Pugliatti, Paul Carlson, and Julie Burrage (Jim), granddaughters Emily, Blair and Kelly Ostrem, step-children, Barbara Slader (David), Pat Reynolds, Greg Reynolds (Linda), many great and great great grand children.
Born in Germany in 1921, Marianne immigrated to the United States after nine years in Shanghai and a brief time in Sweden.
A remarkable woman, Marianne survived the holocaust, malaria, and breast cancer. She became a U.S. citizen, reared children and step-children, plus having two foreign exchange students. Marianne took great pride in running an efficient and loving home, and managing the household finances. She and Francis were happily married for 48 years.
Marianne had a record of volunteer service that is hard to beat. She taught German at Redmond High School for 20 years, and was dearly loved by her students. For six years she served as assistant to the principal of Holy Family School in Kirkland, then worked for 16 years in the administration offices of Lake Washington School District, totaling 42 years as a volunteer. She "retired at age ninety.
Marianne and her family are most grateful for family, close friends, and caregivers who have helped care for her in recent years.
A celebration of Marianne's life will be held at a later time.
