O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain...
Robert Timm - aka BT, Bobba, Dusty - our dad, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend took off on his next great adventure on January 6, 2016 at age 94.

Born on the farm in Harrington in 1921, Bob was the second of three sons of Otto and Florence Thornbrue Timm. As a boy, he and older brother Gordon helped with farm chores and loved the wheat land of Lincoln County. This was always Bob's happy place. He attended Harrington schools and graduated from high school in 1939.

Bob headed west to the University of Washington, and joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, where he was known as 'Dusty' and met guys who would become his lifelong dear friends. After graduating with a degree in economics in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, but a medical discharge sent him home early. At the UW, Bob met the love of his life, Patricia Davies (Petie), and they married in 1944. They lived in Seattle for a few years, and one of his favorite jobs was with Northwest Orient Airlines.

Returning to Harrington, Bob joined Otto Timm & Sons to farm. After their dad's death, Bob and younger brother Duane continued to grow the wheat farming operation, adding acreage and forming a successful farm corporation.

BT was fascinated by politics, and started by serving on the Harrington School Board. He went on to win four terms (1951-1957) in the Washington State House of Representatives, serving Lincoln, Adams and Ferry Counties. When a back injury shortened his active farming career, Bob worked on the successful campaign of Governor Daniel Evans in 1964. Bob served as the state's Republican National Committeeman from 1958 to 1973, and was proud of his work in securing the keynote address for Governor Evans at the 1968 convention.

Bob next adventure was to Olympia, when he was appointed Chairman of the Washington state Utilities and Transportation Commission, a position he held from 1965 to 1970. In 1971, BT headed to Washington, D.C. Because of his work in the transportation industry, he was appointed by the White House to the Civil Aeronautics Board, and served as Chairman of the agency.

Retiring in 1976, Bob and Pat returned to eastern Washington, and remodeled their Loon Lake cabin into a year-round home. Vowing never to shovel snow again, they became snow birds and spent winters at their condo in Maui.

BT served on the boards of several corporations, and enjoyed keeping active in business issues. Bob was a longtime member of the Lions Club, the American Legion, the Washington Athletic Club, and the UW Alumni Association. He was honored as a Husky Legend by the UW in 1990. BT had a fondness for golf, and was a member of the Harrington Golf and Country Club, the Spokane Country Club, and the Olympia Golf & Country Club.

He had the best time with his family, and loved when his granddaughters and great-grandsons visited. Bobba was in fine form on Christmas day and had a wonderful holiday with everyone. Bob is survived by daughters Luanne (Jim) Caylor, Issaquah, and Terry (Jerry) Moos, Seattle; granddaughters Carrie (Joe) Holmes, Bellevue, and Kelli (Bryan) Welsh, Purcellville, VA; great-grandsons Jack and Ben Holmes, and Sam and Matthew Welsh. He is also survived by his beloved little brother Duane (Dona), Spokane Valley, WA, many nieces, nephew and cousins, and his 'bonus' kids, Merry-K. and Bill Moos. He was preceded in death by his wife, Petie, two infant daughters, and his brother Gordon.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Overlake Terrace and Overlake Hospital for their kindness and care of Bob. A celebration of life is planned for later in the year.
