Our beloved Lin left us to dance in heaven with the love of her life the evening of September 20th. Her family, who love and miss her deeply, was by her side. Lin was born on April 8, 1927 in Glenelg, a suburb of the South Australian capital of Adelaide. In 1942, at the young age of 15 she met a handsome American soldier, Douglas Murray. We were always under the impression that it was Lin and her friends who snuck into a military dance but not long ago Lin told us it was, in fact, Doug and his army buddies that came to a school dance. Three years later, Doug and Lin were married. At the age of 19, Lin boarded one of the many bride ships and headed to the United States. Doug and Lin initially lived in Doug's hometown of Evanston, Illinois. In 1947, they moved to Seattle. Doug and Lin eventually settled in Bellevue. On June 15, 1964 Lin became a United States citizen. In 1967, Doug's career took the family to Lafayette, California. In 1974, upon Doug's retirement, they moved back to Bellevue. Doug and Lin and two other couples opened the retail stores, Domus and Kitchen Kitchen. Lin was active in the business as the bookkeeper, assistant buyer, and occasionally worked in the stores. Shortly after Doug passed away, Lin moved to Pacific Regent. She had many great friends and was active in the community. She was the chairman of the Garden Committee, Library Committee and started a choir group.
Lin was a woman of incredible elegance and grace. She enjoyed tennis, golf, trips back to Australia, reading, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, gardening, singing, gin martinis up with a twist, conversation and spending time with friends and family.
Lin is survived by her sons Robert (Joanne), John (Kacy), daughter Megan (Richard), grandchildren David (Briahna), Michael (Lisa), Maureen and Douglas, and her brothers Rodney and Brian, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue on October 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A reception at the church will follow. Lin will be laid to rest next to Doug at the Kirkland City Cemetery.
Memorial gifts can be made in Lin's name to Evergreen Hospice c/o EvergreenHealth Foundation, 12040 NE 128th St., MS 5, Kirkland, WA 98034-3013.
