Debbie Huntsinger
I met Dorothy in 1973, via a message on her chalk board, which hung on the side of her barn. I had recently moved to the neighborhood, and the easement to the trails went right by her mother's house and barn where she kept her horses. One day, I noticed a message that said "Would you like to ride with me?". The next time I saw her, I said yes, and our friendship began.
It continued for many wonderful years. Dorothy was always game for anything, especially if it related to our horses. She rode the local trails, both high and low, went out with us on the cross country jump courses at Ft. Lewis, rode the Crest Trail with me, and anything else that sounded fun.
She was also a great friend of the outdoors, whether it was wildlife art or fishing for salmon. We went to art shows and museums. She is the only other person I know who could get as excited as I was over going to the Burke Museum to see Audubon's original brass plates that he did his prints with. And the fun trips with her and Larry to fish with Max in Alaska. One day the guys had gone to town for supplies, and it was so hot we lay on the river bank in our underwear. She was always up for anything.
And so talented, both with her artwork and her sewing. She made several things for me through the years, and each is like a special treasure. She had such a beautiful touch.
We will all miss her. She had an extensive family of friends. Those of us who just loved being with her will recall this beautiful woman we were all fortunate enough to know.
See you on the trails, Dorothy. Save me a good horse.

Dorothy was an icon in our community. She graciously helped with her art shop, taught painting, rode Sharky and Remington (until he got lame). I remember coming down from the hills in the not to distant past and meeting Dorothy outside her house. By this time she was frail and hard of hearing, but she looked at my horse with a twinkle in her eye and said that it was a nice day for a ride.

In Memory of my Dearest Friend, Dorothy Woodcock. A few short years ago while sitting at her dinning room table on 1 of many wonderful visits with her, she rested her hand on my arm and
earnestly said, “ Sandy, how did we get here?” Of Course she was speaking of our age and how fast the years had flown by. I loved Dorothy immensely as did my husband Craig. We share that sediment with her many friends. Dorothy had a way of making each of us feel special, be it in her painting classes, teaching us to make wreaths, riding our horses in drill team, or changing the days venue from a day trail riding to a walk on the beach and lunch at Salty’s. Dorothy so enjoyed her Birthday/Spring garden parties that brought the variety of her friends together with spouses in tow. She often commented how enjoyable these parties were and how happy it made her for the chance to visit with her friends wonderful spouses. I know each of us has special memories of times with Dorothy. For me there are Many! Dorothy was a mentor, a cheerleader, a teacher, an entertainer, an adventurer, a problem solver and so much more. My painting abilities improved dramatically because of her beautiful tole paint and teaching me those intricate brush strokes. Dorothy’s kindness and gentle ways with horses helped soften my tougher “cowgirl” ways.
Many of my favorite adventures I have no doubt were hers as well. One in particular was an invite thru Ginger Gamblin to participated in a cattle drive outside Tonasket, Wa. Dorothy, Kim Holmberg, Linda Stock and I took advantage of the invite. We were subsequently invited to ride in the “serpentine” grand entry at the opening of the Founders Day Rodeo. This involves all the rodeo contestants riding their horses at a dead run single file into the arena. Dorothy followed me in on her beloved horse, Sharky. We came out most likely faster than we’d ridden in.. Dorothy on Sharky came flying out of the arena to stop side by side next to me with not more than an inch between our legs. She leaned over settling her hand on my thigh, tears streaming down her cheeks and exclaimed “ That was so much fun!!” For me, sharing that moment with Dorothy - that was my Best Day Ever!! Sharing our unique memories of Dorothy keeps her near and dear to us always. May be she is smiling or chuckling with us as we remember her on a train ride. Traveling across Wales heading to England after a wonderful horseback trek around Ireland. Background music playing on the train, Dorothy rose from her seat nonchalantly with tassel in hand, started to dance in the isle much to our delight! Entertainer, yes! A wonderful blessing to us all, most assuredly! Forever in our hearts. Happy Trails dear Dorothy, til we meet again.
We love you always, Sandy and Craig Montgomery

My fondest memory (and there are a lot of them) is when riding with Dorothy one warm summer day on our horses with our dogs tagging along, and tied up the horses and went swimming in our underwear with the dogs in a small lake outside outside Enumclaw. I will miss this great lady.

All who knew Dorothy Woodcock loved her. She was an inspiration and she had endless talent, abilities and was a lot of fun and always a friend to all she knew. I cherish the times I spent with Dorothy and especially our trip to Ireland to fulfill her dream of a lifetime. Despite our age differences she was always just one of the girls. I had so hoped to see her when I come to Washington in early July but God had different plans. Rest well sweet Dorothy and we'll see you again one day. Offering prayers to the family
