Irene Bedell (née Esslinger) age 79
Born in Traverse City Michigan, the big sister to Nancy and Ginger. Met and married John Esslinger in 1955. Son Russ was born in 1956 and Penny followed in 1958. The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1961.
Irene met her BFF, Phyllis Thomas, as well as a small group of co-workers while working at St. Joseph's Hospital as a Nurse's Aide in 1964. The group of "Girls" maintained a close relationship throughout Irene's lifetime.
Irene lost John in 1994. She met Roger in 1996 and married him in 1997.
Irene and Roger built their dream house, travelled to and lived in Sweden and took many trips together over the years.
Irene was a member and held offices in Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic sorority for many years. She enjoyed the camaraderie and believed in the causes the sorority supported, especially the ones involving children.
Irene was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and was the first female Elk of the year, at Tucson Lodge 385
Irene is survived by her husband Roger, son Russ, daughter Penny (Pete), sister Nancy (Russ), stepson Roger Jr., (Jenny) stepdaughter Sheryl (Rex), Grandson Randy (Laurette), Granddaughter Katherine (John), Tori and great grandchildren Cameron, Julia, Reyna and Tyler. She was also Aunt to Connie, Mark and Kelly, and Great Aunt to Billie Jo, Brian, Jennifer, Christopher, Heather and Jared.
Irene never met a stranger and loved little kids!
