How Did We Do?

Archie was born in Paterson New Jersey, June 19, 1948. He passed away on July 27, 2019 in Edmonds, Washington.

Archie was a US Army Veteran and also worked as a Mechanics and Safety Supervisor for the oil refineries under OSHA.

Archie loved his family and exchanged these last words to his family before his passing.

He was a great athlete, played football in high school, was a great surfer, an avid skier (taught skiing at Mammoth Mountain), and was looked up to by all my friends and neighbors as the cool guy. He was very handsome and quite popular with the guys and the ladies...known as a laid back, cool guy.

Archie was drafted into the U S Army at the age of 20, stationed in Korea, and quickly rose to the ranks as a Staff Sargent (up five ranks in two years). Vietnam Generation, although he was sent to Korea where he served honorably. Archie was one of the best skiers in Mammoth and had a strong presence there for many years. All the "old time locals" remember his incredible athletic abilities. He and his other friends used to put up the bamboo poles to create race courses and run gates a few times a week during the winters.

Archie's entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a Frozen Yogurt Shop in Mammoth called Archie's Frozen Yogurt. He provided employment for many and everyone loved stopping by to see him and have their treat for the day!!
Archie and Donna were married in an outdoor Christian ceremony at Mammoth Lakes, CA. Archie and Donna shared a deep faith in God, which he learned from his mother Helen. He knew certain passages from the Bible quite well. He had a generous spirit, once showing up at our door with a new filing cabinet he knew we needed, expecting nothing in return. He fought a long and determined battle to overcome cancer. He was a wonderful brother to his brothers and sisters as well as a good son to his late mother and father.

At one point, when his father was struggling with health issues, Archie took time off and lived with his dad, helping him immeasurably. This act of selflessness was extraordinary. He will be missed. He was a force for good who will be reunited with many old friends in heaven.

Words from his sister Sally: He was kind, he was loving, and he was thoughtful. He gave without expecting a thing in return. He lifted me up when I needed it most and he never batted an eye nor did he ever mention it afterwards. He gave financially, spiritually, physically and mentally.
Without any mention, he showed up at my house when my husband and I separated and he trimmed my trees, weeded my garden, bought me a washing machine, fixed my fence, did odd repairs, bought me chairs when I had none, made me laugh and kept me company. He was a loving soul, with a loving heart. He never wavered despite what obstacles were thrown at him.

Archie's incredible optimism and tenacious spirit will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

CandleI met you back in 2003, when the world had come crashing down on me. You always made me laugh and feel special, right up to the end. Even though I moved far away, we always found time to chat or talk over the years. I miss your political support and keeping up on the sides of things we never heard about. You were always such a good friend to me. Yes, men and women can be just friends. Miss you lots. Nancy McCartney

This was hanging on Archie’s refrigerator when I visited him. It was so sweet I had to take a photo.

Archie was my brother-in- law and a kind and loyal friend.I particularly enjoyed regular sometimes lengthly discussions of the nightly news with our I -phones in hand to google/ fact check any item of news we felt was inaccurate. We also enjoyed comparing the unfolding news with Archie’s predictions in a political book he spent more than a year researching and writing . I tried to persuade him to make into a novel and think he has leaning that way when we last spoke of about it. I will miss him and the many hours we spent together. Mike Langs
