How Did We Do?

Vanrudee "Dee" Humphrey was born May 8, 1949 in Bangkok, Thailand, to Pichai and Nonglak Laohaprasit. She attended Assumption Convent School and Mater Dei High School, graduating in 1968. She was the 3rd of six children, with two older brothers, two younger brothers, and a sister who was younger by 18 years.

Throughout her childhood and as well as the rest of her life, Dee was always a social and outgoing person. Spending her youth as the only girl among male siblings and cousins, she grew up to be confident, strong-willed and intent to "keep up" with the boys.

Dee's ambitions and curiosity led her to be the second in her family to seek education and adventure overseas. On July 16, 1968, she arrived in the United States where she attended Husson University in Bangor, Maine. She graduated in May 1972 with a degree in Accounting.

After graduating, Dee started an internship at a health care company in Boston. There a colleague introduced her to Daniel Richard Humphrey, and the two of them began dating. With her visa status due to expire, Dee returned to Bangkok where she continued to maintain a very long distance relationship with Dan via frequent calls and letters. Dan subsequently proposed, and the two of them were married in Bangkok on August 6, 1975.

Dan and Dee moved to Seattle, where Dan had joined an accounting firm. They purchased a small house in the Greenlake area. Dee converted to Christianity at a Billy Graham Crusade in April, 1976. The couple subsequently moved into a 1930's era colonial style home located on N. Greenlake Drive, where they resided for 18 years.

Dan and Dee had three boys, Errin (1977), Shawn (1978) and David (1985). While devoting the majority of her time to raising her children and managing a busy home, Dee was also closely involved with establishing and growing Dan's business ventures. Dee proudly became a U.S. citizen on September 25, 1980. In 1995, Dee moved her family to Snohomish, WA.

Dee loved the Lord first and foremost, and she devoted her life to spreading the Word of God. With Dan's support, she helped bring numerous people to come to know Christ. She was one of the founding members of New Hope International Church, established in 1988. She also contributed to the founding of Hope Christian Church Seattle in 2004. Her dedication and sacrifices helped those churches to be established and to grow successfully.

Dee's home was consistently a place of refuge and support. Dee was always looking for ways to show her love and generosity to others. She held countless prayer groups in her home. She was frequently reaching out to friends, relatives and families, to provide them with prayer, assistance, and encouragement. She opened her home to students from overseas and to families going through hardship. She loved hosting parties in her home, and her Thanksgiving and New Year's parties were always well attended.

Dee loved to travel, and she made numerous trips across the globe including trips to Africa, Israel, Europe and numerous trips to Asia. Dee also attended numerous conferences, seminars and classes on spiritual healing and ministry, including a one year program that she attended in the U.K. from 2016 to 2017. Dee's dream was to establish a "spiritual hospital" which would provide teaching, prayer, and support 7 days a week for those in need of healing.

On July 30, 2019 in Kirkland, WA, following a battle with cancer, Dee passed away peacefully with her children by her side.

Dee will forever be in the hearts of her husband (Daniel); her three sons (Errin, Shawn and David); her five grandchildren; her father (Pichai); her siblings (brothers Vinai, Suwin, Vasan "Sam," Varun "Mum," and sister Ora); and her many other friends and relatives. Dee was preceded in death by her mother (Nonglak).

For all who loved her, we will be celebrating her life on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00am at New Hope International Church, Bellevue, WA. A reception event will follow.

Oh what a life well lived,
Oh what love did she give,
So generous, sweet and kind,
She was fashioned with God's own design,
Always thinking of others,
And encouraging us to pray for one another,
A woman after Gods own heart,
She was after it from the start...
A glorious life of her Jesus she told,
Now she walks the streets paved with gold.
We will miss you dear friend,
However to those who know Jesus...
Goodbye is never the end....

CandleCousin Dee was the most kindest, generous and welcoming person I ever met. Even though she had a far busier schedule than most she always made time for family, friends and relatives. Opening her home to all. I will miss her beautiful smile and her joyful presence. My condolences to Cousin Dan and nephews Errin, Shawn and David. Claire Becker
