How Did We Do?

Nancy was born on October 3rd 1941 to Jack & Dixie Karns in Girard, Kansas. As a child she moved to Pittsburgh Kansas, before Jack accepted a job with Boeing and moved the family to Washington in 1956 settling in the Burien area of Seattle.

After graduating from Foster High School, Nancy married Bill Cady, her high school sweetheart. They raised their family on Capitol Hill in Seattle and had four children. She loved her family: Carrie, Brent, Robin (Bob) & Drew (Dina) and her grandchildren: Chris, Ryan, Scott, Naomi and Jessica. Her love for community was blooming as she shared her home with others as well as her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies.

There was not a job she did not pour her heart into. Nancy attended beauty school and used her skills as a beautician for many years. After a divorce from Bill, she attended many life skills classes. She was very proud to get her LPN degree as a single parent. For over 10 years she worked at Virginia Mason Hospital. What made her most proud was to start her own cruise travel agency where she chaperoned many group adventures.

She moved to Redmond in 2002, where she would find many new friends. She volunteered at Overlake Christian Church (OCC) where she became a member of a vibrant community. One of her favorite memories being at OCC was spending her time with the young members in the Alpha group, expanding her life skills. As her faith grew her world also did, choosing to go on a mission to Kenya was life altering. OCC helped define her connection with the holy spirit and her living with intention.

She always lived her life being her true self in any situation. It was not only the Holy Spirit, she felt she was connected to her own spirit, this glowing presence sent out an invitation for anyone to connect with her. This made her fearless to listen, learn, mentor and love, sharing the energy of life. She called this "Living in Color".

She had a point to get out of her house every day even though her body tried to slow her down. At the local Taco Time restaurant, Nancy expanded her connections with people starting her Taco Time Ministry". Her bright blue and green hair invited people over to her booth where they would find a caring listener and soon to be friends.

Nancy journaled stories for several years and combined them all together encapsulating her connection with the Holy Spirit and people into a book called, "Living in Color with God. It is an awesome look into her world of ministry and her life in Redmond. She was very proud of it.

The family would like to thank Regency Newcastle assisted living, Evergreen Hospice and especially Marie Josee at Guardian Angel's, for treating Nancy as her own mother. We cannot thank them all enough.

We will all miss Nancy but rejoice that she has passed from this world in comfort, feeling loved by family and friends to be home with the Holy Spirit.

Supporting the needs of the homeless including women and families at "Mary's Place" is a way you can honor her.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Overlake Christian Church on December 12th at 2:30pm. Please wear colorful clothes per Nancy's playful wishes.
