How Did We Do?

Joyce (Hollar) Parks passed away peacefully at her home in Puyallup the evening of Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was 80 years old and surrounded by family and friends all week. Joyce has been battling dementia for the past 5 years and this last week snuck up on her without knowing what was happening. She did not see it coming. She has helped others for decades, but she could not help herself. She thought she could still run, but in reality, she could not move her legs out of bed. She was blessed with no pain unless you tried moving her. She loved having her family right next to her side so she could hold and kiss their hands and hug their arms as she felt helpless, confused and overwhelmed. God blessed her with 3 lovely young ladies who stopped in to pray over her. Little did they know she would pass right after they left.

She was born December 20, 1941 to Leon and Crystal Hollar in Lima, Ohio where she was raised. She Graduated from Elida High School. She was a beautiful young lady, a cheerleader, voted Home Coming Queen, and a straight "A" student. Joyce had a passion for helping others. She attended Ohio State University and Tacoma Community College. She married Robert G. Blue and raised 2 children, Bradley and Tenley. They are her pride and joy as well as her grandson Nick. She moved to Washington in 1970 where she lived out her remaining years, except for a year in Arizona. Joyce absolutely loved living in Washington with it's beautiful landscape and never took Mount Rainier or Puget sound for granted. She worked as a nurse at several hospitals. She later married Ronald Parks and they enjoyed traveling around the nation. They both enjoyed working in the flower gardens and always had fresh cut flowers on the counter. Joyce also liked to make pies. Her nursing career occupied most of her time and extended to providing health care for patients in their homes and was a nutritionist. In her last years before retiring, she was a resource specialist researching valuable information and data that she would forward to doctors in need of helping their patients. She really loved doing research.

Joyce always had a natural gift to speaking to people and giving advice in a very nice and gentle way. She had a kind hearted, sweet personality with great faith in God and a sense of humor. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32-"And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." She deeply loved her family local and afar.

Joyce is forever loved, remembered, and will be missed so much by her loving husband Ronald Parks; beloved son, Bradley Blue; adoring daughter, Tenley (Paul) Biggs; cherished grandson, Nicholas Biggs; step children Karen, Ron, and Russell Parks; her sister Natalie (Terry) Sheely who she loved very much and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Joyce is now with her parents who she deeply loved and spoke a lot about in these last few days along with her brother Terry in heaven.

Please help us celebrate her life and what she has given to each of us. Family, friends, and others who's lives Joyce touched are invited to a memorial service honoring Joyce's life. It will be held at Lighthouse Christian Center located at 3409 23rd Street SW, Bldg. 2, Puyallup, WA, Friday, August 19, 2022 at 11:00amto reminisce, grieve, support, or just chat.
