With his "girls" tending to him, Fred passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2022 at the age of 85. Fred was an award-winning photographer, well-liked Spanish teacher, and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Born in Montana on September 13, 1937, Fred moved to Puyallup, Washington where he graduated high school. He was a classic car enthusiast, and after learning how to restore a 1950's corvette that he sold, paid for his own college education at Universidad de Las Américas in Mexico. He began teaching Spanish and English after college, and traveled the world. In 1972, he made his way to Tokyo and taught adult English classes where he met Mieko Tominaga. After asking numerous times to take her on a date, Mieko finally agreed and quickly realized how truly kind and wonderful he was. After marrying in Japan in 1973, they moved to Santa Barbara where Fred graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography and in 1974, their first daughter was born. Fred's photography work led him to work on a US base in Seoul, Korea, where their second daughter was born in 1981. Not long after, they decided to have their daughters start school in the US and they moved to Bellevue, Washington. Fred enjoyed working with students and began teaching Spanish in the Bellevue school system for many years.

After retiring from teaching, Fred loved to read, spend time with his family, and restore his 1933 pickup and 1940 Ford coupe. Incredibly thoughtful, funny, and adventurous, Fred will be remembered for the special way he made people feel.
