Joan Royal Meden died peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2023 in Bellevue, WA. Joan was born on March 2, 1934, in Seattle, WA to Harriet (Holm) and Edward Carlson. She was raised in the Pacific Northwest and graduated from Cleveland High School. Joan married Jerry Royal in 1952, and had two children, Diane and Mike. She was active in her family's life and found joy in making many of her children's clothes and costumes, working on the family Christmas tree farm, and cooking anything that could be made from the farm's apples.

Following divorce, Joan moved to Bellevue, WA, where she was an executive assistant with John L. Scott Real Estate. In her position, she built her knowledge of real estate and owned several rentals. Later, she owned a janitorial business.

Joan was always curious and a lifelong learner attending many classes on the arts, history, investing, food, and travel. Joan was involved in her community as a member of 4-H, modeled for the Bon Marche, was a member of Toastmasters, and an active participant in two book clubs. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crafts, particularly making family photo collages.

After spending many years together, Joan married Hal Meden in 2004. Before his death in 2006, they enjoyed traveling, movies, and vintage car club events.

Joan loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished her many friends from different facets of her life. She will be remembered for her beauty, style, creativity, generosity, positivity (including the copious use of the words 'amazing', 'wonderful', 'wow' and 'fabulous'), and her genuine interest in the lives of her family, friends, and those around her.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Hal Meden, and her parents, Harriet Olson and Ed Carlson. She is survived by her children, Diane (David Morgan) Royal, Mike (Katherine) Royal, her sister Mona Digiovanni, grandchildren Terra (Russell) Mullis, Travis Morgan, Dashiell Morgan, Megan (Jordan) Jacobson, Malissa (Justin) Davidson, Sean Royal, and eight great-grandchildren. A service will be held in September.
