How Did We Do?

Julie Victoria Pollock Brown battled a brain tumor for over 30 years and was fond of the mantra, "That which does not kill me makes me stronger." On September 8, 2024, her body gave up the fight and she passed away at the age of 69.

She was proud to have spent 30 years serving Snohomish County and the City of Everett as a police dispatcher. She cared deeply for her coworkers and the officers she worked with, and she was known as the voice of calm on the other end of the radio.

She was a lifelong animal lover, fond of telling stories from her teen years about working at the Lake Serene Pony Farm and riding her horse, Sundance, on the Mukilteo Speedway. Over the years, she had a multitude of pets, from cats, dogs, and horses to mice, hamsters and snakes. After she retired, she volunteered at the Everett Animal Shelter, taking care of mountains of dishes and laundry, and training new volunteers to do things her way.

In retirement, she also loved riding her Vespa, hiking and snowshoeing with Everett Parks Department, visiting Hawaii, and connecting with friends at reunions and retiree lunches.

She is survived by her daughter Jesica (Bill), grandchildren Christian, Brandon, and Alyson, and her five siblings.

Donations to Everett Animal Shelter in her honor are welcome, and blood donations are also particularly meaningful. She was a dedicated blood donor, and she also needed several transfusions in her final days.

I met Julie only once, at a Steiff festival, where we shared our enjoyment of the antique and unusual stuffed creations. We remained e-mail pen pal buddies ever since that meeting in 2002. She called me Yogi and I called her BooBoo. 😊She was quite a woman- adventurous, fun loving, a dedicated friend, Mom and proud Grandma. And very, very brave, especially in light of her long and difficult health issues. While I will greatly miss our email exchanges, I value all those that we had and know her eternal reward is richly deserved.
Laura (Julie’s friend in Connecticut).

Julie was one tough cookie! I loved when she was working during my patrol shifts. It didn’t matter what the call was, she was always calm and collected and never missed a beat. You knew she’d get you the information you needed without having to ask for it. She was always a step ahead. Julie was an all around great human. I’m glad that our paths crossed in life. I’ll miss you Downtown Julie Brown!
Love, Maiya Atkins
