Bill Geijsbeek, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 17, 2025, in Kirkland, WA.
Bill Geijsbeek was born in Seattle in 1938 to Bob and Melba Geijsbeek. He grew up alongside his younger sister, Barbara, living in Seattle, Chehalis, Olympia, and Pasco. He graduated from Pasco High School in 1956 before earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1961. He later returned to UW to complete his MBA in 1975.
Bill's professional career was largely spent at Boeing, which he joined in Seattle in 1963 after a brief time in California. Over the years, he held various engineering and management roles in the Commercial Airplane, Aerospace, and Computer Services divisions, working both in Seattle and Washington, D.C. He retired in 1995. In addition to his work at Boeing, he spent several years teaching statistics at Cogswell College in the 1980s.
On January 3, 1968, Bill married Dianne Doolen, who had moved to Seattle from Illinois. Together, they built a life in Redmond, where they raised their two sons, David and Brian. Bill also had a daughter, Suzanne, from a previous marriage. Redmond remained Bill's home for the rest of his life.
Bill had a passion for travel, and his family embarked on road trips across the United States and Canada, travelling as far as Newfoundland. Their adventures also took them to Mexico, the Bahamas, Fiji, and Australia's eastern and southern coasts.
In 1980, Bill and Dianne became involved with Marriage Encounter, and in 1985 they joined the leadership of the program through the Methodist Church. They dedicated time to planning and presenting Marriage Encounter weekends for other couples.
Among his many interests, Bill was best known for his deep love of philately. He was a passionate collector of postal stationery from the time he began collecting stamps in 1953. He wrote numerous articles for publications such as First Days and Linn's Stamp News and was an active leader in the philatelic community. Bill was involved in seven different stamp organizations, serving as the leader of the Northwest Federation of Stamp Clubs, a board member of the United Postal Stationery Society, and a key figure in several local stamp groups. He was highly respected among his fellow collectors across the United States and Canada.
Bill was also deeply involved with Westminster Chapel, participating in various church activities over the years. During his illness this past year, he gave his heart to the Lord Jesus, finding great comfort in prayer and his daily devotional readings.
Bill will be remembered for his love of family, his enthusiasm for philatelic collecting, and his adventurous spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dianne; his daughter, Suzanne (Bob); his sons, David (Rebecka) and Brian (Mary); and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Melba, and his sister, Barbara.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, February 16th, at the Westminster Chapel in Bellevue (13646 NE 24th St), where Bill was a long-time member.
