Darlene (Weller) Brown of Kirkland, WA was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend of many. She was born on September 5, 1961 to Wayne and Agnes (Hare) Weller in Denver, CO. She died at home surrounded by her family on March 20, 2025, after a year-long battle with ovarian cancer, at the age of 63.
Darlene's close, personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was central to her essence. She radiated His love, and impacted each of our lives intimately. Her smile and laugh lit up even the darkest room, and the party never really started until her fashionable arrival. Her family was her most cherished treasure and she absolutely adored her grandkids. Nothing made her day more than seeing them. She was beautiful inside and a blessing to all who knew her. Her mission in life was to be a blessing to those around her, including strangers! She would often pray for Divine Appointments in her daily life where she could share the love of Jesus to someone, anyone, in need. The little things in life brought her the most joy. A hummingbird at the feeder, a squirrel gathering nuts, a good cup of coffee with cream in a pretty mug, a robin singing early in the morning or at dusk, the sun peeking out behind the clouds after a long grey spell, a flower just blooming, and a good find at the thrift store were some of her simple joys, to name just a few. She loved simplicity, tidiness, and all things white. Christmas time was made for Darlene - she was an expert gift-giver and wrapper, and she seemed to sparkle as much as the Christmas lights. She was delighted by nature. She loved the water and adored whales (which she described as majestic), and loved combing the beach for shells and sea glass.
She was raised in Denver, CO and received her education from Columbine High School. She was married to Randy Brown from 1983 - 2007, living at first in Denver with their family until 1997, before moving to Bellevue, WA. She home-schooled both of her children and was a blessing to their local church, Lake Sammamish Foursquare.
In 2016, she married Rick Leegwater. Their retirement years began in 2021, which consisted of enjoying lots of time with the grandkids, summer boating trips in the San Juan Islands, hiking through National Parks, wine tasting, and traveling to Maui and other warm and sunny beach destinations. She cherished being part of the 116Church community, greatly enjoyed being part of a book club, loved spending time with her long-time girlfriends, and was eager for any chance to see her beloved sister, Deb.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Weller, and her sister, Diane Butterfield. She is survived by her husband, Rick Leegwater; her two children and their spouses, Tyler and Lauren (Matzelle) Brown, and Andrea (Brown) and Kevin Springer; and her seven grandchildren: Madelyn (6) and Olivia (4) Brown, and Bill (10), Daphne (8), Joe (5), Harvey (3), and June (2 weeks) Springer. She also leaves behind two stepchildren, Jonathan and Ellie Leegwater, and Ellie's husband, Jason Richmond. Additionally, she is survived by her mother, Agnes Weller, and her sister, Debbie (Weller) Vassberg.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 pm, Wednesday April 2nd at 116Church, 620 106th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. A slide-show will begin at 6:30, and play again after the service. This is a celebration of a heaven-home-going, so please do not wear black. Colorful attire is welcome - it's what Darlene would have wanted!
Meeting up in the San Juans was one of my favorite memories with you
One of my favorite times together-meeting up in the San Juans
My only regret is not getting to know you sooner! You are a treasure and a gift from our heavenly Father to me!! You always radiated Joy and the love of our savior. Truly Christlike (with a more stylish wardrobe)
That smile, pure joy!

Darlene was such a lovely person. Very giving and helpful...but how she wore white pants while crabbing and not getting dirty...is a true mystery and miracle to me. Rest in Paradise. Leslie
Darlene, you were an absolute joy and delight everywhere you went and with everyone you met. I miss you terribly and look forward to seeing you in Heaven.
