How Did We Do?

Jay Lane, ne Jeanette Beth Busk, was born in Milbank, South Dakota on January 22, 1940, the daughter of Norman and Evelyn Busk. She grew up as one of seven siblings. Her early years were spent living on a family farm near Marvin, South Dakota, where there was neither running water nor electricity. Her first three years of education were conducted in a one-room schoolhouse. After the family moved to Bisbee, Arizona, she attended both Greenway School and Bisbee High. The mode of transportation on vacations was flying in a Cessna four seater with her private pilots license.

She spent her professional career working for the phone company back when there was only one of those, starting as a service rep in Tucson, Arizona, and eventually moving on, first to Eugene, Oregon, and later to Seattle. While there, she made her home in the Denny Regrade starting in the mid-seventies. She served a stint in the House of Representatives in Olympia and later with the Department of Housing and Development. She had a lifelong love of reading and made good use of her Seattle Public Library card and loved going to live theater performances both in the Seattle area and in Ashland. She spent years volunteering as a reader for the Washington Library for the Blind. She was a longtime member of Mensa and an enthusiastic supporter of both Toastmasters and the Seattle Film Festival

In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, watching her extensive collection of DVDs, and staying in touch with valued friends who date back to her childhood. Preceded in death by her son, David, Jay is survived by her other son, Dale Lane, of Edmonds, two grandsons, Kevin and James, and two grand daughters, Katherine and Celina Rose along with several great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at: Nun Chuck's Brewing Company in Lynnwood, WA on May 18th between the hours of two and six PM.
