How Did We Do?

Kenneth "Andy" Eugene Andrews, 85, of Lynnwood, Washington, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, taking his last breath while holding the hands of his devoted daughter, Tara, and granddaughter, Avery.

Born in Missoula, Montana, to Roy Sylvester and Olive Belle (Blythe) Andrews, Ken was one of eight children. His childhood in that lively, close-knit family forged his deep, lifelong connection to his siblings and the stories that tied them together.

A proud Navy man, "Andy" honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His years in the service shaped his character, instilling a sense of duty and discipline that he carried throughout his life. He retired as a BT1. During his career, he served aboard the USS Prairie (AD-15) in San Diego, CA; the USS Virgo (AE-30) in Concord, CA; the Naval Support Activity in Seattle, WA; the USS Pyro (AE-24) and the USS Flint (AE-32) both in Concord, CA. He earned multiple Good Conduct Awards, received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery in combat.

Following his distinguished naval service, Ken transitioned to the Fleet Reserve, putting his technical skills to use as the beloved Boiler Technician and Caretaker at Villa Academy in Seattle, a role he held for many years.

On December 15, 1973, he married Isabell, and the two shared 30 years together, building a family and raising their three daughters: Heather, Kirsten, and Tara. Though their marriage eventually ended, his love for Isabell and his unwavering dedication to their family remained a constant through every season of his life.

Ken wasn't a man of flowery words or booming laughter, but he showed his love through his actions. He shared his passion for baseball by taking his kids to games and later cheering from his favorite spot on the couch. He showed it through years of camping and fishing trips, and most of all, through his unique brand of humor. He could never resist a good-natured prank, and his quick wit and easy smile were his truest love languages. His storytelling was legendary, especially when recalling the lively tales of adventure and mischief with his siblings and Navy shipmates.

His legacy of quiet strength and love is carried on by his daughters, Heather (Neiss), Kirsten (Menshenfriend), and Tara (Andrews). He was a proud grandfather--known as "Papa" to Jacob Fullerton, Aubrey Grosvenor, Avery Andrews, and Addison Shane, and as "Grandpa" to Lydia and Luke Menshenfriend. He was also a devoted great-grandfather to Frankie Lozano. He is survived by his sister, Rosalie Russell, and his brothers, Howard, Harold, and Bobby, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Olive; his beloved wife, Isabell; his siblings Bettie June, James Roy ("Sonny"), and Sharon Marie; and many dear friends who were waiting to welcome him home. His family takes comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with those he loved most. As Tara and Avery let go of his hands, they whispered the words he always said: "See you later." And now, Dad, from all who love you most...see you later.

A celebration of Kenneth's life will be held in August 2026 for all who knew and loved him. As the date and location are finalized, please direct any messages, condolences, or requests for memorial details to the family at kmenshenfriend@gmail.com.
