Age 73, of Bellevue, Washington, passed away on November 29, 2025 from a battle with primary progressive aphasia, a rare form of frontal temporal dementia.

Cal was born on September 7, 1952, to Prosper and Rose Albee in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from Rockford University and moved to the Pacific Northwest where he began working in the new age of computers and technology, ending his career with 27 years at Microsoft.

Beyond his professional life, Cal was passionate about the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing and loved hiking in the mountains and National Parks, with yearly backpacking trips among his most cherished traditions. Cal also loved music and film noir, sharing both generously with everyone in his life.

Cal is survived by his twin sister, Cathryn (Kirt) Sanford, nephew, Brandon (Lauri) Sanford, niece, Kelly (Juan Ochoa) Sanford, grand-nieces, Meredith and Claire Sanford, grand-nephew, Sam Sanford and a wide circle of friends who considered him family including lifelong friend Steve Cecchinelli and neighbors Marianne and Steve Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Brett Sanford.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Marianne Reed and Rob Justice for their loving support and care especially during the last few years of Cal's illness, the staff at Belle Harbour; his personal caregiver, Holly; and Continuum Hospice for their compassionate care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Bellevue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite outdoor or conservation charity, in honor of Cal's love for nature and the outdoors.

Cal will be remembered for his outgoing personality, generosity, sense of humor, and passion for debate, as well as for the joy he found in nature, family, and friends. He touched everyone who knew him.
