George Edward Shaughnessy of Newcastle Washington passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 3, 2025. The son of Joseph and Helen, George was born on August 3, 1926 in Seattle Washington. A graduate of O'Dea High School and Seattle University, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He traveled extensively and lived life to the fullest.

George was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Joan Ruth (McBurnie) Shaughnessy and his only brother, Joseph Dever Shaughnessy. He is survived by sons Steven (Kate), and Allan (Diane), 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his long time partner Alice Lange.

George loved all sports, but was especially fond of his Mariners and his Seahawks. He made friends easily, loved his family and really enjoyed a good meal. He was dearly loved and is missed by all.

Grandpa George,
I want to start off by saying how much of an impact and inspiration you have on everyones life around you. A devoted son, brother, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather. You're a hero in every sense of the word. You're patient, you're kind, you're a true man of integrity, honor, respect, and dignity. You speak with actions... words aren't always necessary. You're a patriot, you're a warrior, you're a saint, you're a teacher, and you're a blessing in everyones life that got the chance to know you. You were apart of the 12s, even before the 12s were a real thing. You were a mariner, back when they were the Pilots. You went to a ton of my soccer games; rain, sleet, snow, or sun. Didn't matter, you were always there. Cheering me on, regardless of the score. You've held me in your arms as a newborn. You've literally been apart of my life since before I can remember. I'm going to miss you so much Grandpa George and I love you more then words can describe. This isn't goodbye, this is I'll see you around. I love you and thank you for your service.❤️ R.I.P.

George, you have always been there for me since I was 14 years old. You taught me how to drive, helped me with my accounting homework and so much more. You have always been more of a father to me, and you were a part of our family for 50 years. I miss visiting you in Bellevue and bringing you the white cheddar popcorn from Trader Joe's and the shortbread cookies. I love and miss you so much. RIP. Terry Van Wyck
