How Did We Do?

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that the family of Michael "Big Mike" Tight, 83, announces his peaceful passing on February 8, 2026, at his home in Federal Way, Washington.

Mike was born on September 21, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Norberta Ann "Syb" and Dr. Alvin J. Tight. He was the middle of six children, sister Carol and brothers Bud (Judy) Tom (Barb) Steve (Sharon) John (Mary)

His early years helped shape his strong family values, steady character, love of sports, and lifelong devotion to those he loved. Mike learned the value of hard work at just eight years old while working at The Dutch Door, the family ice cream parlor on the corner of Hayes and Tyler. He often rode his bike home late at night with the cash bag in hand, a responsibility he carried with pride and a story he loved sharing throughout his life. In 1952, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Mike spent his formative years. He attended Central Catholic High School and later graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Mike proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force, working as a Weapons Controller during the Vietnam War. He spent a year stationed in Vietnam and was later assigned to McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. On March 13, 1971, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ogden. Soon after, they were stationed in Birkenfeld, Germany, where they spent their weekends traveling throughout Europe, exploring new countries, enjoying the best local food and wine, and creating lifelong memories. It was there that their first daughter, Tobi, was born. After three wonderful years in Germany, Mike, Barb, and Tobi returned to the United States, where their second daughter, Susie, was born in 1974.

In 1977, Mike and Barb settled in Federal Way, Washington, where they raised their daughters, Tobi (Joe) Roni and Susie (Justin) McKibben. He spent many years working at North Shore Golf Course, surrounded by the game he loved. It was also there that his love for animals grew. Over the years, he brought home many beloved pets, including Midnight, the family's black lab. Mike was a devoted and hands-on father who loved spending time with his daughters. He supported them in everything they did, whether attending their sporting events, teaching them life lessons, or simply being present for everyday moments. He loved taking family trips, sharing stories, telling jokes, and making sure his girls always felt safe, supported, and deeply loved.

In retirement, Mike found great happiness serving as an usher for the Seattle Mariners. He attended most home games and loved being part of the team and the energy of the ballpark.

Mike was a proud and loving grandfather to Daniella, Alyssa, Michael, Colton, Ashley, and Georgia. His grandchildren were the greatest blessings of his life, and he cherished every moment with them. He loved quietly slipping them cash, a small gesture that meant so much and made them feel deeply loved.

Mike had a gentle heart and was one of the most generous, kind, and selfless men anyone could know. He was always willing to help others, offering his time, patience, and quiet strength. He loved deeply, laughed easily, and created a lifetime of memories for his family and friends.

He is deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, humor, loyalty, and unconditional love.

An inurnment with military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, on March 13, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend. A reception will follow at Twin Lakes Country Club from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
