Robert Drury Jones Jr., 74, of Tacoma, Washington, passed away on March 14, 2026, following a stroke. Born on January 12, 1952, in Tacoma, he was the son of the late Robert D. Jones Sr. and the late Elizabeth I. Jones.
Robert graduated from Clover Park High School in 1970 and, that same year, answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. During his six years of distinguished service from 1970 to 1976, he was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines during the Vietnam War and later at Oakland, California. Following his honorable military service, Robert pursued higher education at Montana State University, carrying with him
the discipline and dedication that defined his character throughout life.
Robert was a man of remarkable kindness and warmth, known for being easy to get along with and genuinely loved by all who knew him. He possessed a deep love for animals and found great joy in fishing, whether on the waters of the Pacific Northwest or wherever a good catch could be found. An avid runner, he channeled his determination into completing marathons, a testament to the resilience that marked his entire life. Robert was passionate about politics and was a devoted Seattle Seahawks fan who never missed the chance to cheer on his team. Among his most cherished pursuits was researching and building the family tree, a labor of love that reflected his deep devotion to family and the bonds that connected them across generations.
Robert is survived by his son, Anthony Jones (Brandy), granddaughter Arra Jones and grandson Allen Jones; his sisters, Dee Arneberg (Don), Debra Llera (Alan), and Carol Ball; his nephews, Rock Buttelo, Rick Buttelo, Aric Grettenberg (Tiffany), Fred "Sonny" Kunchick (Sally), Chris Ball (Annie), and Cory Ball; and his niece, Debbi Thyen Buttelo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Houle; his niece, Kim Buttelo; and his nephew, Christopher Kunchick.
Cremation has taken place, and no formal funeral services will be held.
No matter what life dealt him, Robert always bounced back. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and love for those around him leave an enduring mark on all who were blessed to know him. He will be loved and missed dearly. May he rest in eternal peace.
