Dr Irving Kohlberg passed away on February 16, 2026 surrounded by his family and loved ones. We are having a celebration of life on July 31st, 2026 and his cremated remains will be transferred to his extended family plot in Milwaukie, Wisconsin.

Irving was born on September 12, 1938 to Frances Melcher and Stanford Kohlberg in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He had a beloved sister, Harlyne Blum. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a doctorate of medicine in 1964. Irving joined the Air Force in 1966, and was stationed for a period in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He spent a stint in Cincinatti and moved to his long-term home of Seattle, attended University of Washington and transitioned to being a psychiatrist after being a pediatrician.

Irving later did a residency in Geneva, Switzerland where he met and married his first wife, Fanny Beyeler. He loved his Swiss in-laws and his time in Switzerland shaped him greatly.

In 1989, Irving married his long term friend and companion, Beatrice Miller. Six years later they had their only and beloved daughter, Gabriella. As a family they loved to travel both to Florida and Arizona visiting relatives and extended family.

Dr Irving Kohlberg had a flourishing career in the Pacific Northwest.... He worked at Fairfax Hospital and in private practice in Kirkland. He later joined Interlake Associates in Bellevue, where he worked until retirement at age 83. He was an adjunct professor at University of Washington. Later in his career he supported foster kids with therapy at Secret Harbor. He also supported addicts through rehabilitation. He helped hundreds of people throughout the years and was a well known trusted advisor to numerous clients.

Irv was famous since childhood for his piano playing. He loved his newfoundland dogs, and classic cars. He later traveled the world with his wife and daughter (in his 70s and 80s!). He was well loved and will be deeply missed as a pillar in the community. May his positive and determined spirit live on in dedicated service to others.
